Abstract<\/strong><\/p>\n

The aim of this work is to analyze the relationships between initial linguistic and communicative development in autism spectrum disorders and other indicators of early sociocognitive development\u00a0(joint attention and immediate imitation).\u00a0The participants were 11 children, with an age range comprised between three and five years old\u00a0(M= 37 months, SD=7 months), diagnosed with ASD, based on several measures: behavioral observation\u00a0in different contexts, application of standardized instruments (ADI-R) and meeting DSM-IV\u00a0criteria for ASD diagnosis.
\nResults show a significant association between joint attention abilities and imitation. However,\u00a0it was not found significant correlations between imitation skills and communicative competence.\u00a0These findings are discussed considering their implications for assessment and intervention in\u00a0children with ASD.
