ABSTRACT<\/strong><\/p>\nThe objectives of this study were: 1) Compare the perceived parental stress between a group of parents of children with ASD and a group of parents of children with typical development. The rest of the objectives are focused on the analysis of the ASD group.<\/p>\n
2)\u00a0\u00a0 Compare the perceived parental stress between the parents of the ASD children with language and the parents of the ASD children without language. 3) Analyze the relationship between the perceived parental stress and the child\u2019s receptive linguistic skills. 4) Analyze the relationship between the perceived parental stress and the child\u2019s expressive linguistic skills. The Parenting Stress Index scale (the child domain) was used to evaluate the parental stress. The main results obtained were: 1) Parental stress in the parents of ASD children was higher than in the parents of the children with typical development. 2) There was no significant difference on the perceived parental stress between the parents of ASD children with and without language.<\/p>\n
3)\u00a0 Parental stress showed a statistically significant relation with some of the evaluated variables, both recep- tive and expressive language. Thus, the child\u2019 limitations on language skills were linked to a higher parental stress in the child domain, particularly the one obtained in the Acceptability subscale, relative to the parental expectations about the child\u2019s capacities. This result is discussed in the context of the importance that our culture gives to the achievement motivation and the possible connection of this with parental stress.<\/p>\n

RESUMEN<\/strong><\/p>\nLos objetivos de este estudio fueron: 1) Comparar el estr\u00e9s parental percibido entre un grupo de padres de ni\u00f1os con TEA y un grupo de padres de ni\u00f1os de desarrollo t\u00edpico. El resto de objetivos se centraron en el an\u00e1lisis del grupo con TEA. 2) Comparar el estr\u00e9s parental percibido entre los padres de ni\u00f1os TEA con lenguaje y los padres de ni\u00f1os TEA sin lenguaje. 3) Analizar la relaci\u00f3n entre el estr\u00e9s parental percibido y las habilidades ling\u00fc\u00edsticas receptivas del ni\u00f1o. 4) Analizar la relaci\u00f3n entre el estr\u00e9s parental percibido y las habilidades ling\u00fc\u00edsticas expresivas del ni\u00f1o. Para evaluar el estr\u00e9s paren- tal se utiliz\u00f3 la escala Parenting Stress Index (dominio del ni\u00f1o). Los principales resultados obtenidos fueron: 1) Un nivel de estr\u00e9s parental superior en los padres de ni\u00f1os TEA que en los padres de ni\u00f1os de desarrollo t\u00edpico. 2) No hubo diferencia significativa en el nivel de estr\u00e9s parental percibido entre los padres de ni\u00f1os TEA con y sin lenguaje. 3) El estr\u00e9s parental mostr\u00f3 una relaci\u00f3n estad\u00edsticamente sig- nificativa con algunas de las variables evaluadas, tanto de lenguaje receptivo como expresivo. As\u00ed, las limitaciones en las competencias ling\u00fc\u00edsticas del ni\u00f1o se vincularon con un mayor estr\u00e9s parental aso- ciado a las caracter\u00edsticas del ni\u00f1o, y en particular, el obtenido en la subescala de aceptabilidad, relati- va a las expectativas parentales sobre las capacidades del ni\u00f1o. Se discute este resultado en el marco de la importancia que nuestra cultura otorga a la consecuci\u00f3n de metas de logro y la posible vincula- ci\u00f3n que este hecho podr\u00eda presentar con el estr\u00e9s parental.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
