Abstract<\/strong><\/p>\n

Parental beliefs about child\u2019s development and education can influence the way parents interpret child behavior, parenting actions and, consequently, child development. Considering that the lack of assessment instruments specific to this domain in Portugal is an obstacle for the development of\u00a0investigation, the objectives of this study are: 1) to produce the Portuguese translation and adaptation of Knowledge of Infant Development Inventory-P [KIDI-P], originally developed by MacPhee\u00a0(2002); 2) to explore the socio-demographic influence in parental beliefs about child development; and 3) to explore the relation between child care and parents knowledge about child development.
\nA sample of 252 parents was used.
\nThe Portuguese version of the KIDI-P revealed a good internal consistency ( =.84). The results\u00a0show that only age, socioeconomic status and number of children influence parental beliefs about child development. Parents with child care experience in professional context have higher levels of knowledge about child development. The results suggest further investigation on KIDI-P in futures researches.<\/p>\n
